New Opportunity is the flagship engineering project of NUS SEDS. The aim is to design and build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that can accomplish a variety of tasks with some autonomous capabilities. Other than for space exploration rover technology also has a use case in warehouse management, disaster search and rescue and explosive ordnance disposal.
University Rover Challenge (URC) happens from November 2019 (registration) to May 2020 (competition). Teams and rovers will compete in 4 missions: the Science Mission, Extreme Retrieval and Delivery Mission, Equipment Servicing Mission, and Autonomous Traversal Mission.

Registration for the 2020 competition has just opened and will close on November 1, 2019. All registered teams will be required to submit a Preliminary Design Review package by December 6, 2019, and a System Acceptance Review milestone will follow on February 28, 2020. The top 36 teams will be selected to compete in the 2020 University Rover Challenge Finals, held May 28 - May 30, 2020 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah, USA.

- Built a fully functioning and aesthetically pleasing prototype, New Spirit, in 2 months with a small dedicated team and a budget of S$500.
Received more than 60 sign-ups from students from across various years and faculties including several postgraduate students through successful advertising.
Collaborated with NUS Hackers for free access to their tools, instruments, equipment and consumables and with Centre for Additive Manufacturing for 3D printing.
Partnered with Hatch, a social enterprise empowering youths, to host a group of secondary school students as part of outreach on 6/8/19.
Worked out a detailed budget and crafted sponsorship package for dissemination to interested parties.
Collaborating with iDP student’s club to organise a Bootcamp for iDP students along with the rover team to impart necessary skills and knowledge.
